It seemed the pieces of the puzzle were there, it was just a matter of putting them in place. That's to say, the tools were available, but not being used. Sound like vague nonsense? Maybe so. However, from Point A to Point B of your experience with the Meltdown, you will see a streamlined approach the organization structure. No more wasted efforts!
Waivers? For anybody who has worked in the administrative aspect of youth sports, "waiver" might be synonymous with "waste of time"! Distribute them, print them, sign them, return them, check-off players, hunt down missing, etc etc. etc. And for what? To have them sit in a box collecting dust?
And rosters! Whew, the hours that we've spent tinkering in Excel, tediously clicking, trying to import, keep tabs, and compile data efficiently. Again, for what? Do tournaments even use the data? You'd hope so, but if not handled effectively, it's quite a tall task to make arrange all of this data in useable form.
Using just these two examples as grounds for argument (we have many more!), the need innovation was evident.
Step 1:
-Program Director / Coach registers team, and simply enters the names of players on his/her roster.
Step 2:
-Families complete online registration session to match their information to their created profile.
Step 3:
-Enjoy the event! Waivers? Done. Rosters? Done. T-shirt sizes? Done. Grade/Birthday verification? Done. Jersey numbers for All-Meltdown evaluation? Done.
Happy laxing.
